No.24/2007 Elbas intraday volumes nearly doubled
(Lysaker, 6 November 2007) The volumes traded on Nord Pool Spot’s Elbas intraday market have nearly doubled so far in 2007 compared with the same period in 2006.
The total accumulated turnover in Elbas reached a record volume of 1 355 020 MWh during week 43. This is an increase of 73.7% compared with the same period in 2006. An increased focus on Elbas in the Nordic region and the launch of Elbas in Germany and Denmark West during 2007 has mainly contributed to the positive figures.
Jørn Limann, CEO, Nord Pool Spot AS commented:
“We are very pleased to see the positive development of the Elbas volumes in 2007. This is a clear indication to us that such a market is needed both in the Nordic region and in Europe and no other intra day market in Europe can so far compete with the volumes traded on Elbas. Since the Elbas activity normally increases during autumn, we expect the volumes to more than double by the end of the year. 2007 will be yet another year of turnover records both in the Elspot and the Elbas market operated by Nord Pool Spot.”
As of today, 52 direct participants and 3 clearing customers are active on the Elbas market. Vattenfall AB, E.ON Energihandel Nordic AB and Fortum Power and Heat Oy are market makers in Sweden and Finland.
Elbas will be introduced in Norway late spring 2008.
