No.06/2007 Elbas expanded to cover Western Denmark

(Lysaker, 12 February 2007) Nord Pool Spot expands its intra day trading system Elbas to cover Western Denmark 11 April 2007.

Western Denmark joins the Elbas market on 11 April 2007. The Elbas market’s expansion to Western Denmark enables cross-border intraday trading between Western Denmark and the rest of the Elbas region via the Kontiskan cable. The first delivery hour open for trading is hour 01 on 12 April 2007 and the time series are released for trading at 17.00 (CET).

“By introducing Elbas in Western Denmark we have come a long way in establishing an integrated Nordic and European intraday market. Elbas has proven itself to be an effective balancing mechanism and we believe that the Elbas system will serve as an important balancing tool for both power producers, distributors and industries in Western Denmark,” says Lene Sonne, market director at Energinet.dk

About the Elbas market
The Elbas market has been in operation since 1999 and provides continuous power trading 24 hours a day, 7 days a week covering individual hours, up to one hour prior to delivery. The traded products are one-hour long power contracts. The participants are power producers, distributors, industries and brokers. Today the Elbas market is open in Finland, Sweden, Eastern Denmark, Western Denmark and Germany.

Nord Pool Spot AS acts as counterparty in all contracts traded on the Elbas market and all trades are physically settled with the respective TSOs (transmission system operators).
