Ramping
The HVDC connections between Jutland and Norway/Sweden (Skagerak and Konti Skan) are in Nord Pool Spot's day-ahead Elspot market subject to specific ramping restrictions, which have been imposed by the system operators Svenska Kraftnät, Energinet.dk and Statnett.
The restrictions imply that trade plans between Jutland and the Nordic synchronous system cannot be changed with more than 600 MW from one hour to the the next. This restriction is put on each of the two connections individually and as a limit on the gross incoming/outgoing power flow from Jutland on the two connections combined.
The Kontek cable between Denmark East and Germany is also subject to ramping restrictions. Since the introduction of market coupling between the NPS Nordic Elspot Market and the Epex Spot German area this restriction is handled by the EMCC calculation of flows between those coupled day-ahead markets.
When carrying out the ramping in the Elspot market, Nord Pool Spot's calculation system (SESAM) aims at minimising the influence of the ramping on the buyers' and sellers' economic gain, and the ramping is furthermore handled as an optimisation over the 24 hours involved in the price calculation.
